OUR HISTORY
The Detweiler’s story is one of meager beginnings, triumph through tragedy, and an ongoing commitment to core values. It began in 1951, when Raymond and Alverda Detweiler started the company after moving to the area from Perkasie, PA. In the early days, they had just one tank and one truck. Alverda ran the business while Raymond traveled to nearby mobile home parks, offering to fill their tanks. Raymond made a name for himself in the area and the business began to grow.
In 1957, Raymond and Alverda retired, selling their business to their sons, Ray Detweiler and Clayton Detweiler. The company continued to thrive, expanding to serve Manatee, Sarasota, and Charlotte counties.
Sadly, in April of 1990, tragedy struck. Ray Detweiler, eldest son of Raymond and Alverda, was killed when the plane he was flying crashed over Louisiana. Both his family and his team of employees were devastated. Following his death, Ray’s brother Clayton retired, and the Sarasota office was closed. However, this was not the end of the story.
Ray’s oldest son, Ken Detweiler, carried on the family legacy. He took over ownership of the company and is the sole owner today. Our third-generation family- owned business remains committed to the strong values and work ethic that made it successful so many years ago.
Today, we continue to take the customer-first approach that was our grandfather Raymond’s legacy. Now serving over 10,000 happy customers, we remain committed to being the area’s most trusted independent propane supplier.

Not only do we pull permits and county submittals, but we also do all of the installation, maintenance, and warranty work in-house.
PROPANE DELIVERY & ONSITE FUELING
When it comes to propane fuel delivery, few things are as important as safety and dependability. Whether you need residential or commercial propane delivery, you can count on us to be there when you need it.
When ordering on-call delivery, you’ll receive prompt and friendly service with every contact. Our local drivers are extremely knowledgeable and equipped to help with all of your propane-related needs. If you’re concerned about a possible leak or other safety issue, we’re happy to inspect your tank upon request.
Looking for the peace of mind that comes with knowing you’ll never run out of propane? You’re in luck! Our complimentary Autofill Delivery Service provides you with a dedicated delivery driver who will monitor your propane levels and get to know your usage patterns. We’ll top off your tank when you need it, and only bill you when you receive fuel.
We also know that there are times when you need propane right away. For your convenience, we have a dedicated employee on staff 8-hours a day at our on-site propane filling station. We’ll inspect your tanks to ensure they’re safe and quickly fill them for you while you wait.
